It actually would be pretty cool to make a poll to see which desktop environment is used the most. It might not even be XFCE....

i missed it. It would be cool to announce such Polls on http://www.zenwalk.org so that as many people as possible take part in it. That poll was only clicked by 56 Persons, and I am willing to put some serious cash on a bet that Zenwalk has more than 56 Users  :o

well there are usually about 100 users active in the forums per day, so i wouldn't expect too much more votes.

Hi everyone !

Well, my post number #1 here on Zenwalk forums, so be nice to me :)

I am about to move away from Ubuntu/Fedora and i am just 95% sure i will pick Zenwalk and i have been reading the forums for some days already, to be sure i make the right move.

One thing that i really would like to have, is the gnome-desktop.

the reason #1 i am moving away from Ubuntu and Fedora is because it is just full of things that i do not really use, not just apps but also gnome-extras and etc.

how "light" is your gnome setup/repo for Zenwalk ?

Hi Tuche and welcome!

I can assure you the Gnome desktop in Zenwalk is lighter than the one you're used to with ubuntu/fedora. You can find all gnome packages that make up the gnome-desktop in the extra/g directory of the Zenwalk repos (2.18 for current and 2.20.2 for snapshot).

But really if you're looking for a much lighter alternative, you can't go wrong with Zenwalk standard and xfce. Unless you're a fan of the nautilus spatial mode I can't think of another thing that xfce is not as good or better than gnome. Oh, maybe desktop icons behaviour is another... Mind you, I'm currently the gnome maintainer and I still think xfce is better/faster in almost every aspect.
