Hi,

just had this idea : "hey, some spare time, why not upgrade system your zenwalk 4.8 ... " and after an hour installing from CD and setting up stuff afterwards I am sitting here with an amazing zenwalk 5.  \!D/

Thanks  !

some positive notes :
* wicd is MUCH MUCH better than wifi-radar
* thanks for offering an ipw3945 module (works like a charm)

semi-negative notes :
* why do I have to tell g-mplayer to use ALSA ? This should be default !

Thanks again !

cheers, chik3n

can you guys put urlgfe back in iso? It's faster on my downloads then iceweasel a lot of the time.  :'( That and i will not lose my download if iceweasel crashes on me. This does happen very often but it could happen.

RC1 is great by the way. Keep up the good work.  \!D/

I hope this helps.

Or dare I assume that the isos that appeared on some mirrors under the 5.0 directory are already the final thing? Hope I did not spoil the announcement?

Two issues I noted with my 5.0 RC1 install:

During the ncurses install, I designated my /home partition as / and didn't notice until the next step, but I saw no way to return and change my mounting scheme without a hard reboot to restart the install. I'm not sure if I could have (or how I would have) finished the install this way and edited a config file later to fix this, but could the installer be written to allow backstepping and/or ask for confirmation at the end of multi-step processes like this before committing?

Also, I've come home to my PC twice to see it frozen on the 'fontglide' screen saver and requiring a hard reboot. I've unchecked the box for it in my settings. Would there be any way to get an error report on something like this? I have a P4 1.8G processor and Radeon 9800 pro video card.

No other problems noticed - far and away the best distro I've used yet!

I hope not. Read the Snapshot Bugs Forum. There is all kind of things broke in Zenwalk that need fixing before they even think about a release.

I personally haven't seen a lot of bugs on my boxes. The only real stopper was with my 3945 wireless. But removing the e1000 kernel module fixed that.

i have the same problem since... well for a long time. when i was using gravemen with zenwalk 4.4, i could burn things alright. but since changing the cd/dvd burner to gnomebaker and brasero, i haven't seen any successful burning cds. in fact, i found a little work around for this problem. i use xfburn, which is quite buggy, but works well when an 'empty' disk is inserted. don't try erasing disk or fancy things like that. it doesn't work.

in a way, i gave up on burning stuff on zenwalk. i rarely burn cds anyway. but you are right. this problem should be resolved. i think it's just some cd/dvd writers are not supported at the moment... and no one knows which packages need to be updated.

Hey guys,

Anyone of you have problem with the video module for the ACPI! i used to remove this module always from the kernel otherwise the control of the screen luminosity will be problematic on my laptop. It's not zenwalk related issue, but probably this module should be removed from the kernel !

No, it works fine over here.

As for the "brasero won't eject CD" problem: I have now seen this myself on an old PC I have at my parents house. I'm thinking that this might be a problem with the libata device handling system in the kernel. I don't have any such problems on a few rather "modern" laptops I've tried. Whoever is having the eject problem: do you have devices that would normally be handled by the old pata module in the kernel?

I have made a proper bug report with the brasero devs but the only workaround I have found for now is for you guys to replace brasero with gnomebaker...  :-\ (or don't eject CD after burn  :-X)
