EndSection

Code:
Section "ServerFlags"
     Option "AIGLX" "On"
EndSection

Code:
root[bipbip]# fglrxinfo

2°) Restart the pc
3°) In root console, unload the module fglrx : rmmod fglrx
4°) Remove the package ati-fglrx : removepkg /var/log/package/ati-fglrx....tgz
5°) Install the new kernel with netpkg
6°) Install the new driver ati-fglrx
7°) Modify the /etc/X11/xorg.conf
You have to replace in the drivers section "vesa" by "fglrx"
8°) Restart the pc

hi.

i'm not too sure, but maybe this needs to much of user tweaking to become an official package. maybe it would be better to release this under 'contributed packages'.

Hi,

Yes indeed. I didn't know where I could put this.
If an admin can move this topic to "contributed packages"

Thanks.

This almost sounds too easy to do!  \!D/

Listening on some other distro mail lists and reading the howto on the ATI site, it sounds like a hit or miss thing and certainly not without some "tweaking" to get things installed & working.  I have been staying away from the ATI binary drivers because of all the turmoil when using SuSE, but if this works, I may take a look.  Since moving to ZW, I've found many things easier to work with.  By the number of 4.8 CDs I've been giving out lately, it would seem I'm getting others excited about it too!  l!!!

I'll try it out on my test machine with the 9200 tomorrow and report back on my success or failure.  Whatever happens though, thanks for the file and instructions.

figment

Just installed the package without problems and 2d Mode works perfectly.

But I tried running fgl_glxgears and got a "permission denied" message and when running it as root i got this Error:

Quote:
Using GLX_SGIX_pbuffer
X Error of failed request:  GLXUnsupportedPrivateRequest
Major opcode of failed request:  142 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request:  16 (X_GLXVendorPrivate)
Serial number of failed request:  41
Current serial number in output stream:  42

Anyone got an idea what I am doing wrong?
I'm running ZW 5.0 R1 btw.

As there seems to be much interest in this package, maybe we should make it official. I'll revoke my initial statement on this.

Hi,

What if your package posted the tweaks info in a textfile on the root user's desktop. Perhaps some other place? Some place that will grab the admin even if they install it with xnetpkg.

Just a thought here, but couldn't the 'aticonfig --initial' command go in doinst? That would be one small step towards minimal user configuration.

But you will have to check your xorg.conf anyway. If we run aticonfig at install people might forget to check their xorg.conf and end up with their system not booting to X.

i just did a build of fglrx-8.443.1. It builds perfectly now on kernel 2.6.23. I think its best to use this version in older to compile for it to work with zenwalk 5.0.

here is the link the source binary package:
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver-installer-8.443.1-x86.x86_64.run

I hope this helps.

Bip, will you repackage the driver for the current kernel and make an official package?
