Ok, so I have been playing with an upgraded 4.8 core to snapshot, and I have hit what could turn out to be a rather large bug in Core 5.0;

Automounting.

Uwd has now been removed as of 5.0, and replaced with hal, which does automount cd/Dvds, but it relies on Thunars volume manager for automounting usb mass storage devices.

Of course, those of us using core will suddenly not have the luxury of having USB Mass Storage automounting, and I requested that ivman be packaged, which someone has kindly done. However, this in itself is not without problems, as I have discovered that the config files need tweaking, and at least one udev rule needs writing for this to work..

So, i need to ask -- has anyone thought of this, and what could be done to work around it?

Hi,

Sorry for the delay but I was rather buse these days.
I must admit that I have no ready solution for the moment ... but as far as I can see, ivman is not a good one for Core as it relies on dbus, and dbus on xorg ...
statu quo for the moment ....

Lemme think about it ...

Is it possible that you could just continue to use uwd? ... of course, as people add packages to their Core system (Xfce etc.) then uwd deprecates as it is replaced by HAL.

Best regards,
Claus

Yes, uwd is the solution (I have made a lot of search and didn't find a way to make hal working without xorg), but I think that if the hal package will be installed, it must look before if uwd is installed and remove it if necessary.

That's easy to do. Tell me if you need me to update the hal package with that. :)
