Hi Guys,

I have recently installed Zenwalk Core 4.8 to give it a go after some timeout from Slack. The install went ok and the fs boots very quick. As root, i want to install intel wireless 4965AGN but checking my system for mac80211, there are no modules loaded at all and loading modules returns a not found message. I did some searching and found a thread with depmod -v. This command returns no output on my system.  There is however a modules.dep file located in /lib/modules/2.. This file does only contains the iwl.ko drivers i'm trying to install.

Could some guru, point me into directions please?

Does anyone even use Zen Core?

I now have installed the standard edition which is working fine but i do prefer to work with Core. Any thoughts on the above?

Tnx

I use Zen core, but I don't have the wireless card you have.  Could you check your standard and do lsmod as root?  That would tell you which modules are loaded for your card. Zen Core is only 4.8, so I am guessing you have upgraded to 5.0.

Once you find out the modules you need for your Core, do modprobe module_name.  Better yet, activate it in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules.

Intel wireless 4965 doesn't work out of the box in 4.8, but it does in 5.0. So you have to get that package yourself in order to get wireless to work.

Indeed 4.8 had no wireless support out of the box ...

netpkg iwlwifi will not help either in 4.8 as you will probably get the wrong module version (current will install you a module compiled against 2.6.23.12 ...).
You have to install a module compiled for your kernel, as this one :
http://zeqadious.homelinux.net/zenwalk- ... 6.22.9.tgz

(I did not test this one cause I had no wireless card at that time)

Or you could easily create your package using the buildscript from this pkg (don't forget to 'netpkg kernelsource' before ...). Tell me if you need some help to build it.

Regards.

Many thanks for the replies. I do know that 4.8 does not support the 4965AGN out of the box - which i was busy with installing-. The problem stated is that after booting, there are no modules loaded. Not one. doing lsmod returns none.
Adding a module (any module not just iwl) using modprobe returns a not found message.

I have now installed Zen 5.0 standard and all is working very nicely. to get me a minimized system i'm now looking into installing Zen live to my HD.

Best regards,
Diem

What I did was upgrading my zencore from 4.8 to 5.0.  I thought you might do that as well.  Then again, I cannot account for other people's computers as I am not directly using them or have experienced them. :)

This *again* sounds like you are booting with wrong kernel to your 4.8. There should be modules loaded if you do "lsmod".

they were not. I however made a new partition, installed core next to the standard and it now works. I have no idea why it didnt work the 1st time. I installed core with lilo from the installer twice. Anyway, it's good now.

Thanks for your attention.
