Neither Zenwalk Lite nor Zenwalk Live will start unter vmware, even after deleting the content of the folder /rootcopy ???

But a nice job :)

Use virtualbox. I think vmware can have some problems. But under virtualbox it works fine. You can find virtualbox in testing and use that if your running zenwalk 5.0. Also kernel modules have to be recompile on zenlite if your going to added them. sorry.

Also you don't need to remove rootcopy stuff. You can just put norootcopy in boot command.

@ mr-roboto
Zenlite is as small as its going to get. You can just use the base folder. Everything is in the base folder that you would need to go online, open pdfs files and play movies.

I hope this helps everyone.

Then what's lite about it ? ZL is close to the same size as ZenWalk Live. No complaint here, just confused....Jet

@ godane

Thank you for your answer.

I have started to investigate the problem, but I am not good enough :'(

Zenlite seems to have the same structure than ZenEdu.

The problem is that after booting into Zenwalk Live or Zenwalk Lite (not Zencore), the X-Server is not responding the way it should do. There is no background image, the right mouse button doesn't work, the CPU usage is very high and if I try a "htop" under the console, the whole system crashes entirely. With ZenEdu, everything worked fine.

I like very much the lzm system, where you can add and remove compressed software as you like, even if boot time is a little longer than with Zenwalk Live 5.0 RC2.

A lot of testers (bloggers) use to work with VMWare products to test a given Linux distribution rather than make a "real" install. I am afraid they will criticize this point, and will say stupid things like "not usable", "trashy" and so one.

Please don't misunderstand me: I appreciate your work very much, and without considering VMWare virtualization, Zenlite works like a charm. You did a very good job here. But I do not want having to read on the internet the situation described above.

I guess it has to do something with the Xorg configuration, maybe also with the rc.optical service, but i am really not sure. I would so much like to help more, but it is hard to recognize for me that my linux knowledges are far too poor for doing so.

With kind regards from Bavaria / Germany

Eddi

It is lite because it has more apps packed into it and still has the same size as ZW Live. If I am not mistaken it comes with gnome, windowmaker, icewm, and fluxbox as well.

Zenlite just is zenlive with a more modular structure. Zenlite only has xfce desktop.

I love minimalistic designs and I'd like to try ZenLite. When will we see it's final version?
I think that Zenwalk Live will be ready this weekend, will ZenLite be released at the same time?

I forgot that i did add windowmaker, icewm, and fluxbox. I believe that gnome is the only desktop thats not there.

The concept is sound, but the name is misleading. Lite always means something is smaller in physical size, lower in weight or resource consumption, reduced cost or capability, etc. relative to its immediate ancestor. For example, one could (not that you would) describe Slax as Slackware Lite, for its reduced size WRT the stock Slackware distro. So the uninitiated would probably expect ZL to be significantly lighter (in MBs) in comparison to ZWL.

Regardless, I'll d/l it this weekend and give it a try. The biggest issue on the modularity front (to me, at least) is being able to easily reduce the footprint of a ZWL release, reducing it to support only a single lanaguage (or choice of certain languages.) Haven't tried to streamline ZWL on my own, but it would be cool if ZL could deal w/ that.

Later....Jet

No, it won't work under virtualbox. Exactly the same problem as under VMWare. The same behaviour, the same unfinished XFCE desktop boot, the same crash while invoking htop.

Sorry for having to bring these bad news ??? Just try it on your own.

No doubt that you will master the situation with the final release.

Zenlite booted without hickuips - actually,. I'm writing this in a virtual maschine booted by
virtualbox-1.5.6-OSE :) I had a build running before the new maintainer took over...
I've no problems with shared folders - anyway, it's a minor problem easily circumvented by other means e.g samba or bridged networking!
My advice: demand virtuabpx-1.5.6 in snapshot.

ZenLite 5.0:

Hello everybody,

- I have verified the MD5 sum of my downloaded iso
- I do use the last virtualbox from snapshot

It surely is my own fault, but... what have I done wrong?

I simply do not understand why it doesn't work under virtualization with my PC ???

Just trying to stay logical: why does ZenEdu works fine on my machine?

no matter what I'm trying: vmware or virtualbox! the same errors

Slowly I am getting crazy D!! and I would not be happy to die stupid ::)

@ godane & til & mister roboto:

please, have you any idea what i may do wrong? What kind of information should I send you to kindly help me solve this problem?

Anyway, in May of this year I'll get a better, new pc.

Could you please tell me the approximate release date of ZenLite?

Feel sure I appreciate your work very very much!

So sorry that it doesn't work on my fu*censored*ing machine :(
