Hi,

I am new to this forum and new to Zenwalk (and Linux at all). My notebook uses APM instead of ACPI. After building the kernel and enabling APM (modprobe) it still doesn´t work right. Even if PowerOff and Reboot are working now, the battery status is not. Unfortunately "Charging from AC " is the only message I´ve got. Furthermore I don´t have an apm entry in /sbin but in /proc.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

P.S.: As you can probably see, english is not my foreign language. So please be patient.

First,

Welcome to linux/zenwalk! :)

Second,

Have you disabled ACPI?

Quote:
"Rebuild your kernel and disable ACPI, enable APM. It's either the first or the latter, you can't have both in the kernel."

Yes, I´ve read this thread before building the kernel. ACPI is disabled but it still won´t work. Perhaps I try to rebuild the kernel again. It was my first time, maybe I did something wrong with the various options.

Some time ago i had to use 'apm=power-off' as a kernel parameter.
Just put this on the 'append'-line in lilo.conf and run lilo.

My problem is solved now. After upating the BIOS and using the patch from ACPI4Linux (I´ve re-read the BIOS specifications, ACPI is supported) everything works fine.

Thanks for your support.
