Re: Zenwalk Live 7.4 final is ready

You refering to the old zenlive, wich was done by the former Zenlive team. At this time they used "Linux-Live-scripts" as a framework to build the live cd. But since I have overtaken Zenlive it is no longer based on "Linux-Live-scripts" but is powered by "Slackware-Live-Scri...

Re: Zenwalk Live 7.4 final is ready

But why : " it's gonna be very likely the last Zenwalk Live Edition that I do contribute to the Zenwalk project. " LiveCDs remain important. More and more people seem to forget ... ...developing and testing a live system needs a lot of effort and is time cosuming, especially if you do it ...

Zenwalk Live 7.4 final is ready

Hi there, I uploaded the final version of Zenwalk Live 7.4 which has updated openssl-packages to fix the heartbleed issue and some other small fixes. Re: Please save Pidgin

We cannot provide "clearly" unsupported applications. ITo tell the truth it should read "We don't want povide unsupported applications" (because of we don't like the attitude of the developers) Tell your users the true reason why YOU decided to stop pidgin support in ZW! BTW: NO developer is in nee...

Borromini wrote:zenwalk-main+subscribe@lists.zenwalk.org is the correct one afaik.

I have yet to see the info on the ML being publicly available too, I don't know how to read them online either :).

You are talking about this, right?

Re: Do you want to take the red pill ?

Michael, thanks for the updated Wiki entry. But I miss the information about removing some phyton packages before upgrading as well as installing freeglut, fbpanel and libsidplay since those are newly introduced with snapshot. Also tightvnc is gone as JP, announced (although not in the changelog) so...

Re: Do you want to take the red pill ?

Tightvnc is already removed from the ISO (here). It will go to extra as soon as it builds succesfully. JP Then the broken tightvnc package should be removed from snapshot repo as well, so far I see no removal of tightvnc in the changelog... BTW: Where did Michael got the information from that ZW 4....

Re: Do you want to take the red pill ?

Edit: I forgot to mention that the tightvnc package in snapshot is not working. It seems that tightvnc is not compiling well against xorg 7.2, guth is working on it but if ZW 4.6 is released before he succeed compiling tightvnc against new xorg 7.2 we also need to mention in the wiki, that tightvnc ...

Re: Do you want to take the red pill ?

I think one problem to consider would be that when new or unexperienced users installs Zenwalk-4.4.1, then proceeds to update to current (after snapshot becomes current) his system will get trashed and he will leave Zenwalk as fast as he came here. I really think keeping "current" compatible with "...

Re: Do you want to take the red pill ?

2) When the next upgrade of zenwalk moves to current, will it be safe and recommended, to upgrade via 'netpkg upgrade' or will a clean install be in order? From my personal experience I would say, if you follow the steps in the wiki carefully, the upgrade should be no problem at all. However if you...

Re: Do you want to take the red pill ?

@Axxium a netpkg list D will show which packages need to be re-installed after the upgrade. I also want to add a quick note, that some packages e.g. fbpanel and libsidplay needs to be installed additionally (if you want to get a 99% identical snapshot installation) since those where not part of ZW 4...

Re: Do you want to take the red pill ?

IMHO upgrading ZW current to snapshot following the procedure mentioned in the wiki will give you a 99% identical ZW snapshot.
Or you may try to go to snapshot via netinstall, but I don't know how to do that.

Re: Do you want to take the red pill ?

I also wish to have the snapshot at a separate partition. Can anyone list packages that are to be installed to get the core at separate partition so that netpkg could be launched from that (by chroot, I suppose)? I tried to make the list it looks the following way: I don't understand quite well wha...

Re: Zenwalk GNOME 2.16.0

Just two questions:

1.) Why are the gnome packages not be put in the official extra repo (under g)?
2.) Why isn't gnome contributed in few big packages anymore (like it was before), rather than splitting it into many small packages?
