Hi,

as promised in a previous reply in this thread I'm working on encrypting partitions.

The good news is: Truecrypt 6.1a is working with the ZW 5.4 / ZW 6.0.

First I've upgraded the system to the latest kernel, installed device mapper, wxgtk and truecrypt. Unfortunately it is not that simple. I had to recompile the kernel with "Cryptographic API --> XTS" set. Now it works. Just fine!

Howto compile your kernel:
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=362&p=25574&hilit=howto#p25574

How to set up truecrypt right:
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=9651&p=55980&hilit=truecrypt#p55980
read the instructions provided by Raphael on seeting up a 'truecrypt' group etc.

I've renamed the kernel to 2.6.28.2_XTS. So I had also to rebuild my INITRD file before rebooting the system. To be on the safe side I've changed the name of the directory /boot/initrd-tree/lib/modules/2.6.28.2 to ~2.6.28.2_XTS and copied the new kernel modules over. Than I've re-run mkinitrd and lilo.

Next part on encryption will follow.

Now the bad news. During the upgrade at least a number of libs were deleted. MPlayer does not work any more. The new Iceweasel crashed on a number of web pages I tried to load. It was even not able to send a bug report to the dev team.

MPlayer fixed. Had to re-install libdvdcss and libdvdread. Strange, isn't it?

HI
I'm running two versions of 5.4 beta and one stable on three old Compaq desk pro's.
All running very well but the only way I can network the boxes is by using SSH2 within GFTP.
This I have setup for the 3 machines ( all on static ips)

I'm getting a bit of grief from the windows lobby as to why they have to use ftp for files. :'(
I would like to setup samba but although I have changed samba.conf with one machine as master
the others as slave I cannot see any shares or even know if samba is running.

Wasn't there some form of samba gui doing the rounds, if so, is it available to Zenwalk?

Cheers
Bob

Afaik there's swat (Samba Web Administration Tool). To make use of it uncomment these 2 lines:
/etc/inetd.conf:swat stream tcp nowait.400 root /usr/sbin/swat swat
/etc/services:swat 901/tcp # samba web configuration tool

And there are many great tutorials/documentations on the net on how to set-up a samba server.

Good luck!

Hi Thank you for the quick reply, I'll be reading up on it.

Yeah, I saw that one last Thursday too. I like the next post where that response is put in the form of a haiku: ;D

Hi,

yesterday I've installed Opera 9.63 and Wireshark 1.0.6.

After adding a symling for libqt-mt.so.3 Opera works fine (while Iceweasel still reproducable crashes on a number of sites). Wireshark starts (only with root priveleges), but once I've selected an interface (eth0, the one I use right now for posting this thread) for packet capturing the window remains blank. Finally I closed it using htop.

I'm fine with Opera. But I would like to get Wireshark working. I appreciate any ideas on how to find out whats going wrong.

thx in advance.

Hi MoD,
It might be that krb5 is still missing on your system.

Hi hc.e,

unfortunately this is not the problem. krb5 was installed. Re-installed it. Just in case. No change so far.

I'm not using Zenwalk that much, so I'm not very much up to speed on things... I am wondering about the upgrade path here. Is that something that can be done by updating existing packages via netpkg? Or will there be some installable download for an upgrade? Or will it be necessary to re-install the system from scratch?

Thank you.

So ZW 5.4 is ZW 6 with regards to the upgrade procedure?

ZW 5.4 won't be released. There's the BETA and that's it. The current in work version is 6.0 thus the wiki page about 5.2 > 6.0.

Oh, ok, thanks for clearing that up. Although in that case maybe it shouldn't be called a "beta" version, to me, that implies there will be a final release some day. :)
