i have HP Pavilion entertaitment DV6-2013ET (VV868EA) have installed zenwalk 6.4 beta and everyting nearly working fine. But one think really interesting. When i am using win 7, the heat of the laptop really normal (even at very high tasks). But when i am using zenwalk the laptop is overheating (even without doing any tasks). could any one have any idea.

one think that, i am writting this post from cybercafe so if any one replays mybe i will be late to replay again. Thanks...

I believe my notebook LCD backlight was turned off, so I figure it might be a frequency issue. Xorg started all right.
I have a notebook with Intel GMA945.

I think the problem is when kernel switches the console to "color framebuffer device 160x50", just before rc.S starts. At this point the splash screen blanks out and I only get video again when Xorg starts up.

I would apreciate if this could be fixed. It was OK with ZW 6.2.

I got the same speed of 5 KB/s this morning when I left for work, from the Hungary FTP. Hopefully by evening it's finished and I can test the beta.

We have an icon problem with the new icedove version. :(
We try to find a workaround.

I'll leave the following found bug reports as short as possible:

* kernel-source 2.6.33.2

forgot to run "make prepare"; error:

Code: Select all

include/linux/mmzone.h:18:30: error: generated/bounds.h: No such file or directory

* rc.s
You better make a seperate device-mapper check. I remember it was included in LVM or cryptsetup.

* rc.s

Code: Select all

if [ "$RETVAL" "-ge 2" ]; then

Code: Select all

if [ "$RETVAL" "-ge 4" ]; then

* wpa_supplicant
is not installed, gives errors with wicd using wlan

* sis900 module (NIC) and other NIC's with the same error message (has not much to do with ZW but with the kernel module itself, but I can cause problems for ZW users):

<code>
Transmit timeout, status 00000004 00000000
</code

fix:

Code: Select all

mii-tool -v -F 100baseTx-Fd eth0

or

Code: Select all

ethtool -s eth0 speed 100 duplex full autoneg off

<br> Finding new developers for your OS is a difficult job even when your OS is quite popular. I understand you JP... :( same problem here.

Problems stated above are from my memory and I could be wrong sometimes.

Thanks :)

I will hopefully have time next week to handle this

Cheers

I don't know about netbooks
Try to press tab at boot prompt and write zenwalk 3.
1-Let see first if you can log as root.
2-Tell us what is your video driver
You are in 6.4 Beta remember that you are in snapshot, if you will have to
updated whit netpkg choose zenwalk.enialis.net/i486/snapshot
Just this for the moment.

Not to be able to go to init 3 is a problem. If you have same patience wait for 6.4 R.c.
If you can use an external Cd you could try to boot from the cd whit this command=
ata root=/dev/sda1 rdinit= ro zenwalk 3
or your partition N
log as root
pkgtool
remove video intel (xf86-video-intel)
mc
delete all xorg.conf that you find in /etc/X11 include xorg.conf.vesa
reboot..
If the problem is the video driver you should be now able to log in a gui.
You will have to update your system whit xnetpkg, There is a kernel update so run liloconfig again to be sure.
Try , not to be able to boot in init 3 sounds me a big problem.

I finally got to download it and install it. Installation went completely smooth, the target being an old laptop Dell Latitude D600: Pentium M @1400 MHz, 512 MB RAM, Ati Mobility Radeon 9000, wired network.

I really like the new clouds theme! And thanks for having a couple of new engines of window decorations (the new Murrine variations are nice).

I do have a few issues:
- the panel icon for volume control doesn't visually represent the status of selected volume; so no matter what I do to the volume, or even mute, the icon shows as 0 volume (but not muted)
- I realize now after leaving the laptop idle, screensavers have some problem, as instead of a screensaver I get a black screen with the text xscreensaver: <time>, <child pid> terminated with signal 11; fortunately it doesn't break anything
- I installed Opera from snapshot mirrors but not all required packages have been installed, even if all was reportedly OK, and all of them were marked in Netpkg as installed (it was 2 of them that caused trouble, Qt and mysql if I remember correctly); I just cleared Netpkg's cache (by the way it would be useful to have a message that clearing the cache has finished, successfully or not) and specifically reinstalled Qt and mysql then Opera started correctly
- I installed Hugin from snapshot mirrors and I don't know what's wrong but it doesn't start; if I type hugin in terminal I get an error that libboost_thread-mt.so doesn't exist although boost is marked as installed in Netpkg (I will research this later with mr. Google cause I didn't have time so far)
- I deleted all contents of Panel 1 (and added them separately on the 2nd) and then in the panel properties, I clicked on remove for Panel 1 and this caused a bad quirk I can't remember exactly how it went... something like, after clicking close on that panel properties window, Panel 1 was deleted but immediately reappeared; I eventually tried again to remove it in some different way and it worked (shit I realize now how unhelpful this report is)
- I went to properties for the workspace-switcher-gizmo in the panel, and I set the 2 rows option, but it didn't update itself to reflect that (I remember in Zenwalk 6.2 it immediately updated itself to 2 rows after setting that option); I think I had to log out and in again for it to be arranged in 2 rows

Edit: um wait no, now I went back to the laptop to turn it off (I shamelessly wrote this post from my Windows XP desktop computer since it was more comfortable to sit at it hehe) and I could get no response on my commands. I mean no application would start, or nothing would happen when clicking the log out button. I hit ctrl+alt+f1 (is it called tty1?) and it shows an error "ext3-fs error (device sda2): ext3_lookup: deleted inode referenced <number>". On the F2 framebuffer console when I try to log in so I can reboot manually, I get the same error and nothing happens.

The panel icon and the master mixer control isn't in sync by default, but can be fixed by rightclicking on the panel icon, selecting 'Properties' and then closing the dialog again.

Every time that I update I found xf86-video-intel-2.10.0-i486-1.txz.
This driver needs a work around whit modprobe.
Where xf86-video-intel-2.9.1-i486 does not need and make possible to the user to boot direct in X.
I check the Betas of Fedora and Ubuntu and they use a 2.2.9.1 that sounds me
a renamed 2.9.1.
Could somebody, if he has time and patience explain me the reason of using 2.10.0 as default?
