64-bit Zenwalk?

Post by siepa3 » Tue Mar 22, 2011 4:13 pm

I am trying to completely move to Linux with my 3D workflow using Autodesk Softimage 2011. I've had positive experience with Softimage 7.5 (x64) on Fedora 13 but to be honest Fedora is a bloat. Zenwalk has always been snappier and more resource-efficient, at least it felt like it back in the day. Of course there are definite advantages of this 3D package in 64-bit environment with added RAM. My question, any chance of Zenwalk64 anytime soon? Or should I just go with Slack on this one.

I guess not from the standard Zenwalk team for any time soon. Ofcourse possible if any body takes up and builds one and contribute like zenserver.

Btw, wrong section.

I started working on 64bit Zenwalk a long time ago but then my personal life put that on hold for a while. I've been inactive with Zenwalk for probably a year I would imagine and my roles where picked up by others. That means that now I can concentrate 100 percent on Zenwalk64 :)

You won't see Zenwalk64 tomorrow or the next day but I am back working on it and only it. I can't give a timeline at this point but it is on it's way. I'll be posting in the forums looking for testers so if you're interested keep an eye out or feel free to pm or email me.

The latest input from Axxium is here:

Hi,

I am uploading an ISO for Zenwalk64 version 0.01

http://download.zenwalk.org/people/michael/

It is only a start and is only Slackware packages. It is meant to be used as a base 64bit system to make Zenwalk64 from.

It contains XFCE and working wireless internet as well as basic apps.

From this I will build Zenwalk64.

and here

JP,

I patched netpkg to build for x86_64

http://download.zenwalk.org/people/mich ... ap/netpkg/

Cheers,
Michael

I think Axxium needs someone to do it with him.

BR,
Claus

I have had zenwalk-openbox running in 64bit but didn't have time to finish it,,here are still some of the packages I made for it.

hello word, hello guys..

I'm finally here

And.....

I tested Zenwalk64-0.01 today.. and this is my review..

1- Almost have, the same packages than Zenwalk.
2- It is slackware64 with Xfce desktop, not Zenwalk
3- It need some package manager
4- Also need some display manager.

Thank you man for it, but I like Zenwalk
