I know how to package (for Zenwalk too) and I will be free towards the middle of February.

That's great :)

Thanks

JP

My pleasure!
You may communicate with me by email if you wish in either English or French. As an admin you have access to addresses, I believe. That way I will be able to reply to let you know exactly when I'll be free and I'll be able to start for quite a long time if you so desire.

(I am answering my own question.)

If you keep your Zenwalk installation clean then you don't have to use rsync.

I use rsync to quickly reset my disc to a fresh Zenwalk install because I follow these three rules:

Do:
Package on a fresh install of Zenwalk.

Don't Package After:
Manually installing source.
Installing any packages.

I'll gladly help with packaging.  I'll have to learn how--and already am consulting the tutorials on the subject--but I've had enough linux/unix experience (been using Slackware since 1994!  and discovered the Zen way just a few weeks ago..) to have an idea how, to speak generally, the different pieces of various things must to fit together.

There are quite a few packages that I already need that lack Zen packages (a lot of programming libraries, some utilities), and am glad to help out the Zenwalk community any way I can.

I would definitly like to become a maintainer of 4 main packages, and maybe another if ugly dolphin (as per the wiki) would be willing to give it up.

wireshark (the /current ethereal is out of date)
ettercap
kismet
aircrack-ng

and maybe nmap?

would this inclusion into Zenwalk bother anyones sensibilities?

also, would it be advised for running a qemu image of the release cd to compile these?

Hi,

Packages should be compiled for current, please take a look at the packaging rules and post your packages in this forum.

Once reviewed and accepted, your packages will be added to the repository, as you're willing to maintain them .

Thanks

JP

Hyperion,
Please consider Postgresql in your "server" package, Zen would make an excellent database server I think, low fat, high performances...

Hi,

Postgresql has a BSD license, similiar to the one in openssh, so it shouldn't be a problem  :P
a package is already available here for testing for quite some time.

Regards,
