For me is enough. Once you know how to go around, pick up apps from different places and finally get to your wished system is the great fun of Zenwalk. I never suggest to put this in the ISO instead that. But
to do this you need some understanding. Not too much. I'm not a really
Linux guy. The problem hyperion is more simple.
What you really want?
If you ever end just building a system for yourself and putting in the world for me will be enough. What I suppose is that I'm not the typical client that you want to reach and that's why I let you know my thinking.

Do you think that Slackware is not "ready to be sent to the world" ?

I've been working on Netpkg today, the new 5.0 version can handle as many simultaneous repositories as you want, with overlaps : can deal with several versions of the same package available on several repositories !!

Have fun

May i request what are he major changes in this version?

In short :
- it's based on Slack64 "current" rather than stock 14.1 (many updates)
- some cleanup in the setup
- some weird packages from Slack have been removed (who wants to compile Fortran)
- some more perl libs and apps have been packaged (thanks to Gérard)

Lately i am seeing my XScreensaver app keeps reporting that its outdated and asks me to upgrade. But the CURRENT repo does not reflect any updates to any of the packages.

When can i see some updates to the packages?

Most of the system packages (including Xorg, Xscreensaver, etc..) Are avalable from Slackware current : if you're using the latest version of Netpkg, please add a Slack current repos to your list of active mirrors (see :http://support.zenwalk.org/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=48389 )

Cheers

Thanks Jp.

So where does the Zen 7.9 release stand as of today? Stable enough to release or still more time needed?

We're going to wait for the next stable Slack release :)

At the moment I don't think it's time to release, I noticed some minor problems with Xorg on some of my test machines...

Thanks for asking

Hmm...That means i should not update any packages from the slack repo or zenwalk x86_64 repo. I wish it was stable enough to be used. Atleast an intermediate a stable release perhaps? May be zenwalk 7.6 or something i.e take the existing stable packages and rip off a stable build for time being.

of course you can update from Slack and Zenwalk current, which is usually stable.

you know, major releases fix old bugs , and introduce new ones :)

Thanks Jp.

So to be on same page, if i now upgrade all the ZW7.4 packages from http://download.zenwalk.org/x86_64/current/zenwalk/ should give me 7.9 stable build, isnt it? or should i also upgrade from slack repo too?
I dont want perfect build, atleast mostly usable things if are in place i am good with it :)
