Thank you Guth! Your help was just perfect it's working well again! To be honest I've read the notification about not touching the aaa_base, but to me it sounded as a kind of joke. Now I see that it wasn't, not at all...
Thanx once more!

Great job again Zenwalk team!

So how would one go and upgrade correctly from ZW 4.0 to 4.2?

The best way is to read the primary "current" changelog on the homepage: http://www.zenwalk.org/modules/news/art ... storyid=27

This will tell you which packages were added, updated or removed. If you add, update or remove the packages as per the "current" changelog you will then be running Zenwalk 4.2

:)

A word of advice, remember to not upgrade XFCE or Xorg packages in a graphical setting. Switch to "runlevel 3" when doing so. Also, if you update the kernel, remember to run the command "lilo" just to make sure you machine knows about the new kernel. You may also sometimes have to run "videoconfig" and "networkconfig" after doing several core updates.

Also please note that some apps were replaced with others.

Please read the changelog and understand the notes provided in it. You should find it really easy to update if you read ahead.

:)

I see.... Boy, it's gonna be a long night :P
I hope in the future there will be something that automates this.

Incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was the fastest Linux install I ever experienced and the fastest distro I have ever seen, and I have been using XFCE since its inception.
Great work! Congrats to all the developers.....

hi everybody,
i have upgraded my system from 4.0 into 4.2 and it is working, but i thought that i could do a fresh install, next time i need it  ::), so what i want to ask you is what do i have to back up in order to have all the configurations that i have now, on a new system?

i have a partition for / and another one only for /home  ;)

depend of your config, but mostly everything is in your home (speaking of config files).
"general"(i.e; not user specific) config files are in /etc
