mhsc wrote:Does prfaase install kde in /opt ? I thought it was part of packaging rules that things are never installed in opt, you are supposed to install in /usr ...

Maybe I'm wrong ;)

No, he uses /usr for all the ZW KDE files, although /opt is perfectly acceptable according to the LSB.  I've used both and prefer prfaase's method putting them in /usr.  Seems like there are always problems when they start using /opt, but properly done they work there also.

bye,
figment

I built KDE into /opt when I used to use it, it is the recommended method by kde developers (if i remember...) but for packaging it is certainly more suitable to put it into /usr. ;)

I would but the installer bombs just after searching for a suitable
install resource (it finds the CD then there is a screen full of messages)
about not finding certain files / paths etc.

I'll retry the .iso DL, do the checksum and try again ....

Ha! Patrick has updated KDE in Slackware-current. And now it seems to be compiled with --prefix=/usr option. It least slackbuilds tell that. It is good news. No incompatibility anymore.

One more observation regarding Zenwalk-4.6:

When I do New Login to an existing display, password is not asked. This is not preferable.

Once I removed then re-created partitions the install worked fine (using it now)

Seems a bit quicker to start up !!!
