How can this be ??? The "Network Settings" icon is still there ...

networkconfig has been replaced, not dropped , is it a joke ?

Just wanted to say a big THANKS to all concerned with 4.6, which runs like a dream on my Tosh M50-192 lappy.
I didn't try 4.4.1 'cos I had a bit of trouble with 4 and 4.2; kept getting little issues which I'd have to browse the forum to solve and to be honest, I didn't have the time, so I was beginning to wonder if some other distro would work better...
So you've not only come up with a cracking (beta) release, but you've restored my faith that Zen is THE distro, bar none! Thanks.
I've only had it a couple of days and there's only been a couple of issues;

1) Gnomebaker (a brilliant step up from Graveman, much as I liked it...) only works as root, not as user. The first time I tried to use it, the icons on my screen panels disappeared and I had to set them manually. Since then they've been fine.

2) Hibernate and standby come on fine, but the screen stays black when the computer is powered up again. It sounds like it's coming back online, but no screen.

At least the first of these has already been reported, I just haven't had time to fix it. The second, I haven't had time to look for an answer yet, just thought I'd mention it.

In short, SWEET! Congratulations to all concerned, and thank you.
If I had all the money I'd spent on drink, I'd spend it on ZenWalk!

Hi,

is/will be any UMTS-support in Zenwalk 4.6? I have a Huawei E620 3G datacard that works with Debian, Frugalware, Mandriva 2007.1, SuSE, etc., but does'nt works with Zenwalk. (Perphaps I am an luser-user, but...)

your ralink problem is that the new kernel has a new wireless stack - try the new ralink driver... and compile it against your zenwalk install...

you just downloaded the wrong driver version...

Thanks, but I have just another problem with Zenwalk 4.4.1 kernel 2.60.20 : My system freezes unattented and I can only push power button to reboot my system... Ubuntu/Xubuntu/Frugalware make this to, but Mandriva with 2.6.17 not. My notebook is a MSI VR600. What can I do? Replace 2.6.20 with an older kernel?

So far I'm liking 4.6, but I'm having a problem with the onboard SiS190/191 network card on my desktop system. It's one of the few devices that SiS provides GPL'd drivers for that work, but their driver is about three times the size as the one in the kernel tree, but it works flawlessly afaik. They only provide the .c source file for use in a full kernel build, and I'm feeling like an idiot trying to find the kernel sources for 4.6. Previous versions of Zenwalk haven't been able to recognize the SiS SATA controller properly so I haven't been able to put 4.4.1 on the machine without serious workarounds. I guess that I'm asking that maybe you could take the time to replace the sis190.c in zen with the one from SiS (sis.com/download) since no other distro has and it would make some of our lives so much easier. Other than that 4.6 is working well for me so far. I'd like to play with an accelerated X server (beryl most likely) on my dual monitor setup, but lack of network functionality is making that tedious and impractical for me.

about the missing icons:

try running as root: gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/hicolor/

maybe an updated icon-theme package will sort this out
maybe a system wide update at every shutdown so that new icons get in the icon cache file would be useful ;)

you can try this to other /usr/share/icons/ if you think that those icons are missing

lteo wrote:Thanks for the great work on this beta version. Noticed a bug.. there does not seem to be a way to lock the screen, since xlock is missing.

Code: Select all

$ xflock4
xscreensaver-command: locking not enabled.

/usr/bin/xflock4: line 22: xlock: command not found

I am now able to lock the screen properly with the latest xscreensaver package.. thanks!!
